Honolulu International Airport (HNL)
Honolulu International Airport is located four miles west of downtown Honolulu on the island of Oahu. The airport is where many a dream vacation, be it a honeymoon or a getaway, begins. The airport caters to over 18 million passengers a year and is a hub for Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha Airlines. Several other domestic and international airlines also offer flights to and from the airport.
Getting to and from the airport
Getting to Honolulu International Airport is easy. The airport is accessible from the H1 the interstate freeway along the Queen Liliuokalani Freeway where east and west bound exits lead to the airport. H201 from Moanalua Freeway and H3 from John Burns Freeway also have entry points to the airport. There are three passenger terminals at Honolulu International Airport. The main terminal is the Overseas Terminal that caters to international travelers. Connecting flights to other islands depart from the Interisland Terminal and Commuter Terminal. A free shuttle service, the Wiki-Wiki Express plies between the terminals.
Parking and ground transportation at the airport
Honolulu International Airport is one of the busiest airports. Therefore, it would be prudent to arrive at least 2 hours in advance for international flights and 90 minutes prior to departure for interisland flights. There are several parking options at the airport which includes a cell phone lot, a free parking zone for up to one hour. Other options include International Parking Garage A and Overseas Parking Garage D. There is an escalator that leads to the Overseas Terminal from the parking zones. Parking Garage A is exclusively for the Interisland and Commuter terminals. Lot J is an economy parking zone, which is the ideal place if you need to park for two days or more at a cost of $12 per day. Honolulu International Airport is a disabled-friendly airport with plenty of facilities available for physically challenged individuals. This also includes parking facilities at Lot A on the ground level, Lot D, and Lot M. Automatic ticket dispensers are installed at the entrance to each zone. Taxi cabs and chauffeured limousine services at available at all passenger terminals. SpeediShuttle offers door to door services to and from Oahu while TheBus, the city bus service offers economy fares to and from Waikiki. These buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts.
Services and amenities at Honolulu International Airport
The second level of the Overseas and Interisland Terminals serve as the passenger arrival sections. The ground level of the Commuter Terminal is also dedicated to arrivals, which leads to the Baggage Claim and intra-terminal and ground transportation areas. Free shuttle buses operate between the terminals. There are many restaurants, coffee shops, and shops located at most terminals. Each terminal also features a business center, car rental counters, newsstand, ATMs, airline lounges, and USO facilities. Information desks are located all around Honolulu International Airport. Staff are available at the information counters between 4:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.
